For Windows, start by simply plugging in the DAC via USB and see if it finds and installs drivers. Most newer Windows versions already have drivers for our stuff.

You do not need drivers for Mac or for Linux distros that support UAC2.

If Windows does not install drivers automatically, see our drivers below.

Drivers for Yggdrasil, Gungnir, Bifrost, and Modi

For Windows 10:Schiit USB Gen2 Drivers (W10) 1.01 (6.5MB)
For Windows 8, 7:Schiit USB Gen2 Drivers 1.16 (29.5MB)

Alternate drivers (if you have trouble with the above): Schiit USB Gen2 Drivers 1.03 (For 7 and 8)

Once you’ve downloaded the drivers:

Step 1: Go to your Downloads folder (or Desktop, or wherever you had Windows put the drivers.)

Step 2:

For Windows 10: Double-Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_W10_1_01.zip file to expand it.
For Windows 8, 7: Double-Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_1_16.zip file to expand it.

Step 3:

For Windows 10: Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_W10_1_01 folder to open it.
For Windows 8, 7: Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_1_16 folder to open it.

Step 4: Connect the DAC with a standard USB A-B cable, 2M or less in length, with true USB 2.0 rating.

Step 5: Double-click on setup.exe. This begins the driver installation.

Step 6: Follow the prompts from the installation program to install the drivers. You may have to restart your computer.

Step 7: In your Control Panel/Audio Devices, select the playback device. Depending on device, this may be 'Schiit Modi,' 'Schiit Gen 2 USB' or, in the case of older DACs, 'Schiit USB Audio Interface.' You may also have to select the device separately in the player software you are using in order to get output.

Step 8: Enjoy your music!

Gen 3 Drivers

For Windows 10: Schiit Gen 3 Windows 10 Driver (6.6 MB)
For Windows 8, 7:
Schiit Gen 3 USB Driver (29 MB)

Once you’ve downloaded the drivers:

Step 1: Remove any current Schiit USB drivers before proceeding further. The Gen 3 driver will work for both USB Gen 2 and USB Gen 3 inputs.

Step 2: Go to your Downloads folder (or Desktop, or wherever you had Windows put the drivers) and double-click on the Schiit_USB-Gen3_1_06.zip archive to expand it.

Step 5: Double-click on “setup.exe.” This will automatically select the correct driver for your version of Windows.

Step 6: Follow the prompts from the installation program to install the drivers. You may have to restart your computer.

Step 7: In your Control Panel/Audio Devices, select Schiit USB Gen 3 Interface the playback device. You may also have to select the device separately in the player software you are using in order to get output.

Step 8: Enjoy your music!

Note: On some Windows systems, driver downloads will show up as 'Encrypted,' and will not install. In that case, follow this procedure:

a. After unzipping the drivers, you'll have a directory with the driver files inside.

b. Right-clicking on the directory gives a menu with a 'Properties' button on the bottom.

c. Click on Properties, On the first tab, 'General,' click on the 'Advanced' button under 'Attributes.' You will see four checkboxes, the last of which is 'Encrypt contents to secure data.'

d. Uncheck that box and click 'Apply.' Unencrypt for all subdirectories, and proceed with Setup as in Step 5.
